Irish Moss (Sagina Subulata) - A Luxuriant Evergreen Ground Cover! Mossy foliage grows just 1 - 2 inches tall, for lovely color between flagstones or spilling over rocks. Dense tufts of slender stems grow together to form a lush carpet of green. Small, star-shaped, white flowers cover completely in spring. The very tiny seeds of Irish Moss create a mosslike, evergreen, perennial, lush, emerald-green foliage that forms a compact 1 - 2 inch tall carpet. Excellent for planting between flagstones or as a ground cover, it creates the effect of a moss-covered meadow. During late spring to midsummer, Irish Moss is covered with small white flowers. Adaptable to sun (cooler climates) or shade (warmer climates). It needs moisture retentive, gritty, well-drained soil. Hardy above -30 degrees.

Seeds arrived quickly. I knew the seeds were very tiny from past experience, so they needed to be handled carefully. I sprinkled them over the area I wanted planted, didn't cover them, and watered with a fine mist a couple of times each day to keep moist. After a couple of weeks, I have plants growing.
